The popular mobile game Brawl Stars has been marred by a serious bug that has left players fuming and feeling disgruntled. The issue arose during the ongoing Battle for Katana Kingdom event, which kicked off on May 1 and was supposed to be a four-week celebration of Japanese-inspired content. As part of the event, players were encouraged to collect Sushi Rolls to hit milestones and unlock exciting rewards, including new Wasabi Powers, a fresh brawler named Jae-Yong, and game modes like Samurai Smash.
However, some players began to notice that despite hitting the required milestones of 25, 100, 150, and 200 Sushi Rolls, they were not receiving the rewards they were entitled to. A screenshot posted by a user showed a staggering 200/200 Sushi Rolls with no rewards unlocked, sparking widespread frustration and disappointment. The bug has affected players who spent real money on passes or Sushi Rolls, with some commenting that they had dropped significant amounts, including £100, without receiving any of the items they had earned.

The community has been vocal about the issue, with some players demanding compensation ranging from 2 to 200 Sushi Rolls. The bug has also highlighted another issue with the game, where sprays overlap, suggesting that the update may be unstable. Theories have emerged about the cause of the bug, with some speculating that it may be due to server overload during the big event, while others believe it may be a coding glitch in the Sushi Meter reward triggers.
After a few days of patch delays, the Brawl Stars team finally acknowledged the issues in an X post on May 5. The team revealed that they would be fixing the problems and providing a solution to ensure that players receive their rewards. To rectify the situation, players were advised to simply relaunch the game to receive 25 Gems, plus the Cursed Kenji and Oni Kenji skins automatically. Additionally, players were instructed to open the Sushi Meter in the event tab to manually claim Credits or the Epic Brawler reward.

The 25 Gems that players will receive are not an extra bonus, but rather the reward that was initially promised for hitting the 25-roll milestone. The team assured players that these Gems would be delivered now to make up for the fact that players had hit 25 Sushi Rolls back on May 1 but did not receive their Gems until today’s patch. The incident serves as a reminder of the importance of catching bugs quickly and maintaining player trust, especially when cash is involved and community hype is high.
The recent Pizza Planet event bug that caused major compensation delays and required a rework of Brawl Stars’ reward delivery system also comes to mind. For a live-service game running big events, these hiccups underscore the need for efficient testing and bug fixing to prevent such issues. The Brawl Stars team has taken steps to rectify the situation, but it remains to be seen how the community will respond to the solution. One thing is certain, however – the incident has left a sour taste in the mouths of many players, and it will take some effort to regain their trust.
