Strong Finish Propels UH Men's Golf Team Up the Leaderboard

The University of Hawai’i men’s golf team wrapped up their fall season with an impressive final round at the Kā’anapali Classic Collegiate Invitational, hosted at the prestigious Royal Kā’anapali Course. The Rainbow Warriors delivered a standout performance on Monday, posting a remarkable 9-under 275, which helped them secure 18th place with a cumulative score of 1-over 853.

Tournament Overview and Team Performance

Oklahoma dominated the competition, maintaining a commanding lead throughout the tournament to claim the championship title with an outstanding team score of 42-under 810. Their dominance was further highlighted by the exceptional performance of Jaxon Dowell, who earned medalist honors with a stellar individual score of 17-under 196, narrowly edging out his teammate Clark Van Gaalen.

For the Rainbow Warriors, the final round was a testament to their resilience and skill. Three UH golfers—Tyler Ogawa, Josh Hayashida, and Anson Cabello—shined, each carding an impressive 3-under 68. Ogawa and Hayashida wrapped up the tournament tied for 49th place with an general score of 3-under 210, while Cabello ended at 8-over 221, finishing in a tie for 111th place.

Individual Performances

The tournament also featured strong individual showings from the Rainbow Warriors’ lineup:

  • Dane Watanabe posted an even-par 71 in the final round, finishing tied for 80th at 215.
  • James Whitworth carded a 2-over 73, placing him in a tie for 118th at 227.

Three additional Hawai’i golfers competed as individuals in the tournament:

  • Nathan Szpakowicz recorded a final score of 72, finishing at 227 (+14) and tying for 118th place.
  • Skylor Taylor shot a 79 in the final round, concluding with a total score of 234 (+21), placing him 122nd.
  • Quinn Murray closed out his tournament with an 82, finishing at 240 (+27) and ranking 123rd.

With the fall season now complete, the Rainbow Warriors will turn their focus toward preparing for a strong spring campaign.
