Since its global launch, Marvel Rivals has rapidly become one of the most played games worldwide, competing with industry giants like PUBG, Dota, and CS2 in daily active users. With the first half of Season One coming to a close, the developers have revealed major changes to the competitive ranking system that will impact players as they progress through the ladder.
Major Adjustments to Competitive Ranks
Marvel Rivals first launched in January 2025, bringing over 30 iconic heroes from the Marvel universe into the game. Players can take control of fan-favorite characters like Iron Man, Spider-Man, and Captain America, each featuring skins inspired by their comic book and movie appearances. The latest hero addition to the roster is Mr. Fantastic, the leader of the Fantastic Four.
In a recent Dev Talk update, Marvel Rivals announced that the first half of Season One will officially conclude on February 21 at 8:00 UTC+0. Following this, players can expect new additions to the game, including The Thing and Human Torch from the Fantastic Four. Additionally, players who achieve ranks higher than Gold will receive exclusive costume rewards, while those who reach Grandmaster or the top 500 leaderboard positions will be granted a prestigious Crest of Honor to showcase their accomplishments.

Rank Resets and Competitive Balance
One of the most significant changes coming with the second half of Season One is the competitive rank reset. All players will be dropped by four divisions within the ranked system. For example, a player who finishes in Diamond 1 will start the next phase of the season at Platinum 2. This adjustment is designed to create a more balanced and competitive environment, preventing players from stagnating at higher ranks while also giving others a chance to climb.
To maintain fairness and encourage continued participation, Marvel Rivals has also confirmed that starting with future seasons, all players should anticipate a drop of six ranks at the beginning of each new season. This system is being implemented to ensure competitive integrity and prevent the ranked ladder from becoming too top-heavy.
Reward System for Ranked Play
Competitive players who meet the required rank thresholds will receive new exclusive rewards. These include:
- Costume Rewards: Players who finish the season at Gold rank or higher will be eligible for unique in-game cosmetic rewards.
- Crest of Honor: The highest-achieving players in Grandmaster and above, as well as the top 500 leaderboard players, will receive a special crest to signify their status in the competitive scene.
Additionally, to claim any of these rewards, players must participate in at least 10 ranked matches during the second half of the season. This requirement encourages continued engagement and ensures that rewards are given to active competitors.

A Look at the Future Meta
With The Thing and Human Torch arriving in Marvel Rivals, the competitive terrain is set to shift. While it’s still unclear how these new heroes will fit into the game’s evolving meta, their introduction is sure to shake up team compositions and strategies. Players can expect new synergies, counters, and potential balance changes as Season One continues.
As Marvel Rivals continues to grow, these ranking adjustments will play a crucial role in refining the competitive experience. Whether you’re aiming for high-level rewards or just looking to improve your rank, adapting to these changes will be key to success in future seasons.
