Montana State Bobcat Men’s Tennis Gears Up for ITA Regional Championships

Focused and Determined: Bobcats Prepare for a Key Fall Tournament

The Montana State Bobcat men’s tennis team is ready to showcase its talent at the 2024 ITA Division I Men’s Mountain Regional Championships in Las Vegas, scheduled to begin on Thursday, October 17. Representing the Bobcats at this prestigious tournament are sophomore Andre Stewart and graduate transfers Dmitry Bezborodov and Harrison Janes. The competition, known for drawing some of the best collegiate tennis players, is a pivotal event in the fall season and a significant milestone for the program’s development.

First-year head coach Mateus Ceolin, who brings fresh energy and high expectations, expressed his excitement about the opportunity. “We’re eager to see how much progress we’ve made and identify areas that need improvement,” Ceolin remarked.

Spotlight on Player Performance

As the tournament approaches, the Bobcat players are fine-tuning their game. Bezborodov leads the group with a solid 5-3 singles record, while Stewart holds a 3-4 mark. Janes, though currently at 1-5 this fall, is determined to improve. The team has already competed in challenging tournaments at Boise State and Air Force, using those matches as a learning experience to sharpen their skills.

Coach Ceolin noted the players’ commitment to embracing his new approach. “These guys have really embraced the changes we’re making,” he shared. “We’ve focused heavily on individual skill development, conditioning, and on-court performance.”

Building a Winning Foundation

Ceolin, a former Bobcat player and assistant coach, is dedicated to creating a strong foundation for the Montana State men’s tennis program. He emphasized the importance of attention to detail and strategic play. “We’re working on being strong in the corners, making smart decisions with serves and returns, and having a clear plan for every ball,” Ceolin explained.

Intensity and effort have become central themes under Ceolin’s leadership. “Every practice and tournament is an opportunity to reinforce a healthy, winning culture where every action matters,” he added. By instilling this mindset, Ceolin aims to uplift the team’s performance and set a standard of excellence that will shape the program’s future.

Looking Ahead to the ITA Regionals

Heading into the ITA Fall Regional Championships, Coach Ceolin is optimistic about the team’s progress. “The players have been putting in tremendous effort, both on the court and in the weight room,” he said. “I’m proud of the technical improvements we’ve seen and the dedication they’ve shown.”

The ITA Regionals serve as an important benchmark in the Bobcats’ journey, offering valuable experience and the chance to compete against top-tier talent. Under Ceolin’s guidance, the team is steadily building toward becoming a strong and competitive program.
