Men’s Basketball: A Promising Year Under Keith Urgo

Head coach Keith Urgo enters his third season leading the Fordham men’s basketball team with high expectations. Urgo’s tenure has already been historic, with more wins in his first two seasons than any Fordham coach since Johnny Bach. This season, the Rams return over 60% of their scoring from last year, positioning them as strong contenders in the highly competitive Atlantic 10 Conference.

Key players returning include Japhet Medor and Will Richardson, both of whom averaged 9.8 points per game last season. Abdou Tsimbila, one of the nation’s top shot-blockers, also returns after ranking second in the A-10 and 18th nationally with 2.3 blocks per game. The roster has been further bolstered with talented Division I transfers such as Matt Zona (Notre Dame) and Jackie Johnson III (UNLV), as well as a standout freshman class led by four-star recruit Jaden Smith from Chicago.

Women’s Basketball: Continued Growth Under Bridgette Mitchell

The Fordham women’s basketball team, led by head coach Bridgette Mitchell, is entering the 2024-25 season with momentum following a strong finish last year. Mitchell’s debut campaign saw the Rams win six of their final seven regular-season games and earn eight conference victories, showcasing the team’s potential under her guidance.

Taylor Donaldson, one of the Atlantic 10’s top players, returns after leading the conference with 17.9 points per game last season and earning Second Team All-Atlantic 10 honors. Joining Donaldson in the backcourt is assist leader Taya Davis, while Rose Nelson anchors the defense as last season’s top shot-blocker. With a mix of experienced returnees and talented newcomers, the women’s team is set to build on their recent success.
